5 Signs it's Time to Replace Your Water Heater

Be on The Look Out for These 5 Water Heater Replacement Signs…

  1. Inconsistent Hot Water

If your water heater is struggling to produce hot water compared to when it was installed, or if your home’s water continuously fluctuates, the decrease in performance can indicate the system is no longer working efficiently. This is a common issue with older water heaters and might indicate there is some sediment buildup in your tank or heating problems.

  2. Rusty or Discolored Water

If the water from your faucets or shower head is appearing as a different color than usual or tastes metallic it could indicate your system might be rusting in the inside of its tank, especially if this only happens when you use hot water. If you are in this situation, use it as a clear warning sign that your tank is corroding and susceptible to an eventual leak.

  3. Strange Noises

The third sign might seem obvious, but if your water heater is making unusual sounds—such as popping, banging, or rumbling—it could indicate a significant amount of sediment buildup. Over time, sediment can harden, leading to wear and tear on the system and reducing its ability to run efficiently.

  4. Leaks Around the Unit

Water pooling next to your water heater is an immediate red flag that you should investigate as soon as possible. There are a number of reasons that may be causing it. It could be a minor issue like a loose valve or a crack in the tank that requires an expeditious replacement to prevent any potential flooding in the future.

  5. Age of the Unit

Depending on the model and maintenance, 8-12 years is the standard lifespan of a water heater. You should have a licensed technician do regular maintenance checks or perform a water heater service at least once a year. If yours is close or past this range, it might be wise to start planning on scheduling a water heater replacement before any significant problems arise.
